Communication agreements are one of the essential foundations to a dialogic classroom. Agreements should be set at the beginning of a semester, kept alive throughout, and revisited to make sure they still meet the needs of the class.
This exercise helps faculty and students to co-create a set of explicit agreements that allow students to share a dissenting, sensitive, or divisive view, story, or value. It also helps faculty understand the conditions they can create to promote an engaged space and students to identify their own intentions for the semester.
Typical Length: 20-30 minutes
